RPLATE Works in the Real World: Reliability & Compliance

The reliability and compliance of Reviver’s RPLATE are two of the biggest questions that we receive. These were the exact considerations that we had in developing RPLATE. Designed from the start to meet state registration and visibility standards as well as provide similar longevity as the traditional metal plate. 

When people first hear about a digital license plate, they often have the same questions:

• What happens if the battery dies?
• Can someone turn the plate off while driving?
• Can drivers change their license plate number?
• Will law enforcement still be able to identify my vehicle?

Designed to Display Your License Plate at All Times

One of the most common misconceptions about digital license plates is that they function like a tablet or phone screen that goes blank when power is lost. Not RPLATE.

RPLATE uses an e-ink display that retains the vehicle's license plate image even if the battery is depleted or power is interrupted. The registered plate number remains visible, allowing the vehicle to continue displaying its assigned registration just as a traditional license plate would.

This means that even in the unlikely event of a complete power loss, the plate does not suddenly become unreadable.

You Can't Turn Off Your License Plate Ever

You can’t dodge toll roads by turning off your plate. RPLATE is designed with safety and compliance in mind. Drivers cannot turn off or blank the license plate while operating the vehicle. The plate continues displaying the registered license number as required by state regulations. The system is engineered to ensure that vehicles remain properly identifiable on public roads.

Your License Plate Number Cannot Be Changed

Although RPLATE has a digital display that can be updated with banner messages, the license plate number cannot be changed from what you have legally registered with the state. The official license plate number displayed on RPLATE is assigned through the state's motor vehicle agency, just like a conventional license plate. When you set up your RPLATE, you have to upload your DMV information to confirm your license plate number. This can be changed later if you want to switch vehicles, however it requires the same process of confirming your DMV info for the new vehicle.

Drivers have no ability to:

• Change their plate number
• Create fake registration numbers
• Modify registration information
• Display another vehicle's registration

Personalization Happens Only Within Approved Areas

RPLATE can display banner messages, depending on state regulations. A unique feature that presents additional compliance needs. These messages are limited to designated display areas and never replace or alter the official license plate number. Approved banner messages prevent inappropriate or offensive language. Personalizations do not affect visibility. 

Built with Law Enforcement in Mind

Reviver has worked closely with state motor vehicle agencies and regulators to ensure that RPLATE functions as an official government-issued license plate, not simply an aftermarket electronic accessory. The official registration information remains clearly displayed for law enforcement officers, parking enforcement, tolling systems, and automated license plate readers.

We’ve performed many visibility tests across multiple states with toll road management companies, local and state police. A license plate is only as good as it is visible. We surpass standards and make improvements where necessary when working with PDs and DMVs.

Secure Registration Management

Because RPLATE is digitally connected, registration updates can be managed electronically rather than requiring new stickers or replacement plates. Drivers still must maintain a valid registration through their state's DMV.

The digital connection simply allows approved updates, such as registration renewals, to be reflected on the plate without waiting for physical decals to arrive in the mail. This improves convenience while maintaining compliance with existing vehicle registration laws.

On the exterior of a vehicle, RPLATE has to survive in every condition and put up with a beating and keep working.

RPLATE buyers and law enforcement are not the only people with questions. Legislators and regulators have their own interests. RPLATE elevates the traditional license plate but provides the same legal purpose of a traditional plate. Compliance is the most important consideration at Reviver. 

The system is designed to:

• Retain the license plate image even if power is interrupted.
